Eat Smart, Move Smart, Sleep Smart for a healthy heart

Last Saturday, i attended an educative talks in the morning at Heart Smart Workshop which organised by Anlene and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In conjunction with the World Heart Day, this workshop is aimed to educating Malaysians adults on the importance of heart health.

Always bear in mind that a healthy lifestyle is vital for cardiac health, I’ve learned some tips from specialists speaker on how to 『Eat Smart, Move Smart, Sleep Smart』 to best care for our heart during the workshop.
The Anlene's Heart Smart workshop feature not only Megawati and Datuk Dr. Sanjiv to provide their expert insights, but also Muhammad Izzat Sallehan, Senior Physiotherapist at Pantai Integrated Rehab Services Sdn. Bhd. ; Liew Yen Lee, Senior Nutritionist at Fonterra Brands Malaysia; and Dr. Kong Min Han, Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. This four speakers in different specialities discussed some of the ways in which heart health can be achieved by ensuring that you Eat Smart, Move Smart, Sleep Smart.
Start promptly at the agreed time and begin the workshop by Pn. Megawati Suzairi, Director of New Product Development, Scientific & Regulatory Affairs at Fonterra Brands.

We were told that nearly one in four patients with heart problems are under 50 years old, and statistics have shown that 46.6% of Malaysian men and 48.9% of Malaysian women are either obese and ‘the 3 highs’: high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar. This means that Malaysians are, on average, suffering heart disease at much younger ages than neighbouring countries. So do not think that heart problems are a worry for the elderly only, cardiovascular disease is affecting more young people too. 
We all know Malaysia has an abundance of food choices, people might pay less attention to a healthy diet. But i am pretty agree that "a balanced diet is one of the cornerstones of a healthy heart" can help reduce your risk of developing coronary heart disease and stop you gaining weight.
The second part is conducted by Datuk Dr Sanjiv Joshi, Consultant Cardiologist, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death in Malaysia, accounting for over 13.2% of deaths in a 2017 report. Dr Sanjiv was presenting some slides of cardiovascular diseases facts, his interesting and hilarious speech get everyone awake and laughing. Also, he shared some of the tips of early prevention from Cardiovascular disease such as vegetarian diet as diet is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for heart disease.

Ms Liew Yen Lee, Senior Nutritionist of Fonterra Brands Malaysia recommended we need to consume at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. these food groups are good sources of dietary fibre, vitamins and antioxidants that are beneficial for out heart health. However, there is a perception that it is hard to eat healthy in Malaysia due to the wide selection of food. Well~ it is a matter of healthier choices for example, adding milk into our breakfast cereals. So, I better kick start my healthy diet with drinking Anlene Heart Plus.

Lastly, Dr Kong Min Han, Consultant ENT Surgeon, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur shared about the topic that almost 90% of Malaysians suffering. He said that many Malaysians suffer from sleep apnea, and this is a high risk factor for heart disease because its effect on blood pressure and nervous system. I had irregular sleep patterns that make me feel tired always, Dr Kong teach us how to sleep smart in order to feel less tired and stressed during the day.
