Why The Westin Desaru Coast Resort is worth the drive?

Actually this is my first time visit to this place, but if in the future, someone asks me for a beach getaway recommendation in Malaysia? 

The Westin Desaru Coast Resort is always one of the first places that comes to mind.

I've visited many beach resorts over the years, but what makes me keep thinking about Westin Desaru isn't just the beautiful coastline or the comfortable rooms. It's the way the resort combines wellness, dining, relaxation, and meaningful experiences into one seamless stay. From the moment you check in, you'll notice that everything here revolves around Westin's 3 core pillars (Sleep Well, Eat Well, and Move Well).

Let's me make a quick intro to this resort.

Located along the pristine shores of Desaru Coast in Johor, The Westin Desaru Coast Resort offers the perfect escape from the city. The resort is surrounded by lush tropical greenery, open-air spaces, and calming ocean views. 

The architecture itself takes inspiration from the sea, creating a sense of connection with nature throughout the property. It doesn't feel overly luxurious in a flashy way. Instead, it feels warm, peaceful, and restorative where you immediately switch into vacation mode.

Most rooms feature spacious balconies overlooking either the resort grounds or the South China Sea, and paired with the signature Westin Heavenly® Bed.

I completely understood why "Sleep Well" is such an important part of the Westin philosophy, because it was incredibly easy to drift off and I had a good sleep during my stays.

For those who looking for pure relaxation

The spa’s signature Heavenly Spa Massage treatment includes a Swedish massage and heated compress applied on the meridian points to release tension and break up muscle “knots” promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being. The hydrothermal pools in the spa has a combination of 38°C temperature and water jets which provides unique benefits including cleansing and detoxification of skin, relieving tired and aching muscles, increasing circulation thus renewing the mind and body. Whether it's a signature massage or a rejuvenating body treatment, every experience is designed to melt away accumulated stress and leave you feeling completely refreshed.

That is easy access to the beach with just 2 minutes walk.

As this is my holiday, i prefer to starting the morning with yoga, stretch my body and wake up my mind with the sound meditation.

A delicious, fresh and nutritious meals offering through the Eat Well programme. 

I was amazed that "Westin’s Eat Well" philosophy is further strengthened through an ongoing collaboration with BoomGrow, an innovative indoor farming partner supplying fresh, pesticide-free greens grown in controlled environments. Harvested and delivered fresh to the resort’s kitchens, these hyper-local greens retain maximum nutritional value and natural flavor, allowing chefs to create dishes that are both wholesome and satisfying. 

During my recent visit, I discovered several newly launched experiences that made my stay even more interesting and memorable. 

Flavors in Motion Dining Adventure

One of the highlights of my stay was experiencing the newly launched Flavors in Motion Dining Adventure. Unlike a traditional dinner, this is a progressive dining journey that takes guests through several signature dining venues across the resort in one evening. I kinda like this because it offered a different atmosphere and perspective of the resort. It felt less like dinner and more like a culinary adventure by the coast.

The experience begins at the Beach Bar, where the sound of crashing waves and the golden sunset create the perfect backdrop for refreshing starters inspired by the sea. 

Then continues to Kedidi, the resort's newest coastal dining venue overlooking the beautiful Muara Lagoon. Here, locally sourced ingredients, fresh seafood, and Nusantara influences come together in dishes full of warmth and character.

Next comes Seasonal Tastes, where contemporary techniques and bold flavours transform familiar ingredients into elevated culinary creations.

The final stop is Prego, the resort's signature Italian restaurant, where decadent desserts provide a sweet ending to the evening.

Behind The Bar Cocktail Class

Another newly launched experience that completely surprised me was the Behind The Bar Cocktail Class. At first, I thought it would simply be a fun photo opportunity ^^ because it set against the relaxed backdrop of the beach.

Guided by the resort's talented bartenders, I was invited behind the bar to learn the art of tropical cocktail making. From understanding flavour combinations to shaking, mixing, and garnishing, every step feels interactive and engaging. I got to create my own signature cocktail while learning the stories behind the ingredients.
